Savoring Summer
while it lasts...
This has not been a big writing summer for me. Rather, I have been enjoying family visits, time at the pool with friends and neighbors, going for walks, listening to audiobooks, and watching the time fly by. Now that’s it August, though, I thought I should check in with a few important updates.
The first important bit of news is that my brand-new romance literary magazine is open for submissions! Sweet Cute Magazine is a new home for short, non-explicit romance in the 1000-3000 word range. Submissions are open August 1-31, 2026 for stories to publish on Substack in October. All writers are welcome, as long as your story has a Hallmark feel and a happy ending. I would love to read your romances!
I am also very excited to be in the first issue of The Haikuist, published by Micromance Magazine. My contribution is a series of five connected haiku depicting a romantic walk home on a summer evening. The Haikuist is doing quite well on Amazon right now, and the paperback is very well designed, the best I’ve seen from Micromance! Submissions are open for the fall issue, and I am definitely planning to submit.
Also speaking of fall and Micromance, I will have a hayride-themed romance in the autumn issue of Kissmet Quarterly. More on that at the end of this month.
As I’m writing this, I have just finished the next installment of The Plus One Pact, my ongoing serial romance published quarterly in Clean Fiction Magazine. Part 6 of the story will be in the Autumn 2026 issue! If you’d like to read it from the beginning, you’ll need to start with the Summer 2025 issue.
As I get back into writing this fall, I hope there will be more news to share. For now, I’ll be enjoy the dwindling days of summer and looking forward to reading your Sweet Cute submissions!

Best of luck with your new Sweet-Cute mag, Katie! Sounds a terrific idea!
